A Look Inside King’s Head

Why is King Jordan doing this to us? To the people that cherished, supported, and sacrificed themselves for him? Does he realize the actions he’s taken within the past 6 months will destroy 18 years of his legacy? Not so, as the name King has corrupted his way of thinking and actions, which are supposedly in the best interest of the University. We, the people gave him that trust on that historic day of March 13, 1988. King Jordan no longer acts for the Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni, but for his Administrators.

Why Jane Fernandes? Why has Jordan hand-picked her as his successor? The reason must be he doesn’t want the next president to exceed what he has done in his 18 years of work. Jordan has dreams and visions of becoming an immortal icon of the deaf world. He fears that the next president will outshine him and take his place at the top pedestal of House One. Slowly does he realize that his power is running out? He has become old, his welcome is worn out, and he is on his way out of this University. Jordan is thinking that he will leave with his reputation shiny not tarnished. He doesn’t seem to realize that his continued support of Jane Fernandes will dump a pile of bison poop on his reputation.

When King retires, he will be no longer president of the University. He has no power or control over any of us anymore. His decision to continue and support the university as an outsider will not be taken by the people of the community that easily due to his actions. Once he steps outside the front gate on January 1st, 2007, he will step out of all of our lives, and no longer has any say in this protest or anything university-related. He will be a distant memory and a former employee of OUR University. So right now, we all are clamoring over his recent announcement about homecoming, his ignoring the faculty’s wishes and so forth. Andy Lange has vowed that our homecoming will continue. This shows how much Jordan’s power has dwindled. His commands strike no fear in the community anymore. His words are taken lightly. His orders are disobeyed and disagreed upon. Jane Fernandes’ biggest supporter is I. King Jordan. Once he leaves this University for good, who will Jane have to back her up? Nobody will have an impact like Jordan does on the community. Only Jordan had that power.

The protest has been focusing on both Fernandes and Jordan. Once Jordan leaves, we should be able to focus on Jane Fernandes and Fernandes only. We should be putting all of our power into forcing her to resign. Jordan says we have to wait and give her a chance. We take those words into consideration now, but after he leaves, his words are meaningless. So now, why are we all listening to Jordan? He is out of here soon, so his words and opinion are not valued anymore. It is time to hit Jordan, and hit him close to home. We have made tremendous progress in this protest and Gallaudet has become closer, united and a community of one heart. Now it is time for us all to collectively take the next extreme step.

Take over College Hall. Kick Jordan out of his House One. Remove the Department of Administration Safety (DAS not DPS) from this campus. What will they do after this? Nothing, we should have the power to decide who resides in House One, and right now, both I. King Jordan and Jane Fernandes are not worthy enough to reside there. House One should be empty, until occupied by the president the community chooses and approves. Besides, we don’t have to worry where Jordan sleeps. He’s got his hotel room at GUKCC, along with Jane and the rest of the administrators.
